The firefox logo originated when Steven Garrity, who is a professional interface designer, wrote an article about the wrong things on Mozilla’s visual identity. His article received a large amount of response and attention that made the Mozilla foundation to create a new team and have their logo redesigned that can reach the same standards of other companies.

Garrity helped with the creation of the new logo together with the final touch of John Hicks. “Firefox” is actually a common name for the red panda but with its unfamiliarity and the name not having a common ground with its animal figure, they decided to create an icon that will retain into the people’s minds. The logo should be something that doesn’t need to be overdone with complexity and intricacy but will represent them in an artistic way.

They used a blue globe with a not so bright blue color accentuated by portions of land with a darker shade of blue. A more familiar creature that can be associated with its name is wrapped around following the curves of the circle. The fox is painted with colors ranging from orange, dark orange to yellow.

It has highly contrasting colors but not to the extent that it can be too much striking or hurting to the eyes. The fox clearly shows its figures with its head facing the globe, the figure still shows important details to give out a clearer view of what they want to portray. The fury tail flawlessly blends to the form of the globe where the yellow colors are emphasized to show its form.

Mozilla Firefox’s logo has the ambition to have a more retention capability in the minds of the people without causing any distraction to other icons that other companies may have. With the company accepting criticisms and turning it into a positive note, they have made something that is so familiar to everybody that one will already know the name of the company just by looking at their logo.
