Size matters

Interested in experimenting with Social Media and online advertising? As you become more familiar with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media sites, you are going to find that many require more than one size logo. The message here is that you need to decide: (1) will I use one logo for every size required, or (2) will I have different logos for smaller and larger logo demands.

If you choose the former, you need to be sure that your logo will still look good small. Busy logos often become just a blur when their size is reduced to the thumbnail sizes required for some sites. Likewise, graphic logo designs that look good small, may look heavy or clunky when the size is increased. Additionally, logos that are rectangular are automatically reduced to fit into the square formats required by some sites. This further reduces their look and appeal.

After a great deal of experimentation in this, I believe a suite of complimentary logos is the best plan. You need to have a large rectangular logo for your website home page and other site uses, you need to have smaller versions of it for other online uses, you need a square version of your logo for social media sites and some directory listings. You need to have additional complimentary logo designs for use in discussion groups on such sites as LinkedIn. You may also want to have obverse versions of your logo to spice it up a bit or to better show up on different color backgrounds.
